The idea
Direct Your Light turns a cinematographer’s decision into an interaction: where should the light fall? A fixed portrait subject gives visitors a way to see how a scene changes when the light moves, softens or changes colour.
The project draws on Samer’s background in cinematography and lighting. It invites the visitor into the director’s chair, with the image responding as each creative choice is made.
Light as a language
Three starting looks — Golden, Noir and Neon — offer different moods. From there, visitors can control the key light and back light independently, switch between a spot and a softer source, and adjust colour and intensity.
Lens choices from 16 mm to 85 mm introduce another part of the composition. Light, perspective and camera angle work together, allowing a single subject to produce very different portraits.
How it was built
The studio is rendered in the browser using Three.js and WebGL, with a 3D marble bust and an environment light. Changes to the controls update the scene in real time, so visitors can judge the result while they work.
The capture workflow turns the chosen composition into a downloadable image. Square and portrait formats let visitors keep the image they directed. The bust and studio environment use credited assets from Poly Haven.
The result
A working lighting experience within the iSamo portfolio: visitors can experiment, compare moods and leave with a frame shaped by their own decisions.
Experience the work.
